Hosted by NortHFutures, the Digital Health and Care Summer School will provide PhD students and early career researchers (ECRs) from the North East and North Cumbria (NENC) with an immersive learning experience in health and care technology, and detailed insight into research and innovation in this sector.
The Summer School is aimed at PhDs and ECRs currently working in the field of health and care technology, as well as those working in adjacent fields such as computer science, data science, maths, engineering, medicine, public health, health and care services research, who have an interest in health and care technology and innovation.
If you are currently conducting research in health and care technology and thinking about your next career step, or if you are a researcher looking to move into technology and innovation within the health and care sector, this Summer School is for you!
Summer School participants will gain exposure to current cutting-edge research and innovation from across the region, deepen understanding of funding and career development opportunities, collaborate in teams during a Challenge Day to develop a solution to a real-world health and care problem, network with peers and experts from the sector, and contribute to the facilitation of a peer-led Unconference Day.
All Summer School participants are required to submit a poster on an element of their current research work, to participate in the event. Posters will be judged by a team of sector experts and prizes will be awarded.

- NENC Tech: Lightening talks from sector experts
- Funding and innovation development opportunities in NENC
- Poster competition with prizes
- Facilitated networking sessions
- Challenge Day – innovation pipeline simulation - work in teams to solve real-world health and care problems with innovative technology solutions
- Unconference Day – peer-led discussion and networking forum to explore topics of shared interest to summer school participants
We intend to secure wide participation from PhDs and ECRs from universities across the NENC region in this event. Travel and accommodation will be provided for participants based outside of Newcastle.
