Responsible Hub Governance

Responsible Hub Governance

The Hub Governance team is led by Hub directors Abigail Durrant and Naeem Soomro, and includes representatives from our consortium that offer strategic expertise and insight to ensure we strive for best practice in all of our hub work. The Hub leadership team sets the strategic direction of the Hub, ensures that Hub activities are legal and ethical, and supports the monitoring and evaluation of Hub activities to support learning and improvement.

The team includes experts in:

  • Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise Sector involvement;
  • Regulatory, policy and ethical matters;
  • Patient and public involvement and engagement (PPIE);
  • Health data analytics and technical implementation for improving health outcomes.

Other responsibilities of the Hub Governance team include:

  • Ensuring that hub activities are legal, ethical, and operating within regulatory frameworks including the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) through the provision of guidelines and terms of engagement;
  • Supporting the monitoring and evaluation of hub activities to support learning and improvement of the hub;
  • Strategic decision-making.

We are committed to upholding standards of responsible and ethical research and innovation in all our Hub work. Accordingly, the Hub governance team includes experts in:

  • Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise Sector involvement;
  • Regulatory, policy and ethical matters;
  • Patient and public involvement and engagement (PPIE).

We work closely with our partner Voluntary Organisations Network North East (VONNE) to help ensure we are reaching out to and involving the VCSE sector in our work regularly, fairly and effectively.

We have established The NortHFutures ‘Research Involvement Advisory Group’ with members who are experts in participation and inclusion from our partner network. The Group is consulted regularly to review processes and advise on involving diverse stakeholders in Hub work.

The NortHFutures Patient Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) group involves patient representatives and members of the public who can advise on research and technology design studies as experts in their lived experience. PPIE representatives are regularly included in Hub’s activities, ranging from governance meetings to financial award processes.
